Ponty continued their pre-season winning run with a 5-2 win over Gwent County Division 1 side Marshfield FC.

The first half was a great contest with plenty of attacking football at both ends. Marshfield hit the post early on and Ponty had had a number of chances, but just couldn’t seem to get the ball under control in the Marshfield area.

The deadlock was finally broken on 35 minutes. The ball was chipped into the left side of the box and Aaron Carew was on hand to chip the keeper with the outside of the boot from 25 yards.

Ponty quickly made it 2 – 0 on 37 minutes as the ball was played into the right corner and squared for James Hill to shoot accross goal into the bottom left corner.

Ponty’s great spell continued when on 40 minutes, a cross to Aaron Carew on the left side of the box saw him step the defender and pull the ball back to James Hill who shot low from 12 yards for his second goal.

A minute later Marshfield struck back when Nathan Jones shot from 25 yards on the right side of the box into the top left corner.

On the stroke of half time, Flynn was tripped in the box, and James Hill slotted home for his hat-trick.
