Ponty off to a Winning Start

The Pontypridd Town ACF 1st Team got their pre-season off to a winning start on Saturday with a 3 – 1 over Treforest. The game was played at Cambrian’s Lakeside Sports Academy which has a fantastic 3G pitch.

Treforest had the better of the first half as they looked to contain Ponty, and they went ahead early in the 1st half. A Ponty header off the line was headed straight back by the Treforest centre forward for a deserved goal.

The 2nd half was a different game altogether, changes in the Ponty line-up saw them take control of the game, and new signing Chris Vardon soon had Ponty level with a 25 yard shot. A great through ball from Zac Iheanacho saw Luke Lear beat the keeper with a square ball for Chris Vardon to tap in his second.

Ponty dominated possession for the rest of the game and were rewarded with a third goal, this time from James Hill who found himself in space on the right side of the box and scored from 12 yards.

There was also an appearance by Youth Team keeper Liam Barter who got some game time towards the end of the match and looked comfortable in goal.

All in all, a good start to pre-season, where improving match fitness is the priority.
